The accomplished musicians of the UN Chamber Music
Society (UNCMS), together with the Abu Dhabi Festival, are proud to hold a concert in celebration of World Arabic Language Day, on 18 December 2023, at the prestigious Weill Recital Hall at
Carnegie Hall. One of the most widely spoken languages in the world, Arabic is a pillar of the cultural diversity of humanity. In celebration of World Arabic Language Day, and Arabic’s
historic role in the development of art and science, the programme will feature a variety of popular and classical music from the Arab region. Founded in 2016 by Brenda Vongova, the UN Chamber
Music Society is dedicated to promoting the United Nations' goals and values at large - through the universal language of music.

Sending solidarity and support to the Middle East and its people in the face of the humanitarian catastrophe – on 26 October 2023, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS), will present a virtual concert in support of the relief efforts of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). A massive humanitarian operation continues, and the UN and its partners are rapidly ramping up efforts to provide life-saving assistance. The United Nations is on the ground to deliver emergency relief items – including food, medicine, water, fuel, shelter, blankets, hygiene kits, and other humanitarian aid.
Music binds us together in these darkest moments. Through compassion, the musicians of UN Chamber Music Society, under the Artistic Direction of Brenda Vongova – together with violinist Yamen Saadi,
Concertmaster at the Vienna Philharmonic and West-Eastern Divan Orchestra (founded by Maestro Daniel Barenboim and the late literary scholar Edward Said to promote coexistence and intercultural
dialogue); and violinist David Strongin, from the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra – will perform a concert to support the Middle East.
All donations will be directed to support the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), in
support of the UN’s relief efforts to provide lifesaving assistance in the face of the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in the Middle
East. Founded in 2016, the UN Chamber Music Society carries out the United Nations’ mission
of peace, understanding and cooperation, through the universal language of music.

On Saturday, 24 June 2023, during the month of UN Russian Language Day,
Klavierhaus will present the UN Chamber Music Society’s Concert in Celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Birth.
Language Days at the United Nations were introduced to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity and promote the equal use of the six official languages across the Organization. These days are also an opportunity to sensitize the United
Nations community to the history, culture and use of each of these languages. In this context, the UN Chamber Music Society celebrates all UN Language
Days.
Russian Language Day is commemorated annually on June 6th, on the birthday of the great Russian poet A.S. Pushkin, within the framework of the program to support
and develop multilingualism. On this occasion, the concert will open with a message by H.E. Mr. Vassily A. Nebenzia, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the
United Nations.
The repertoire of the concert will feature an all-Rachmaninoff music programme – performed by Anastasia Nemirovich-Danchenko;
Brenda Vongova, President of the United Nations Chamber Music Society; and members of the UN Chamber Music Society. Founded in 2016, the UNCMS is dedicated to promoting the UN goals at large -
through the universal language of music.

On the occasion of World Refugee Day on Tuesday, 20 June 2023, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS), in collaboration with UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, bring you this concert. World Refugee Day is an international day designated by the United Nations to honour refugees and all forcibly displaced people across the globe. It celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee to escape conflict, violence or persecution. World Refugee Day is an occasion to build empathy and understanding for their plight and to support refugees in rebuilding their lives.
Music symbolizes love and peace. In recognition of World Refugee Day, the music programme will open with music in collaboration with multi-Grammy Award winners Ricky Kej and Stewart Copeland. It will also feature music performed by Syrian refugee musicians; and will close with the world premiere the UNCMS’ arrangement of “Ayibobo” (Haitian Creole for "Freedom"), composed by electronic musicians Francis Mercier & Nitefreak. On 14 April 2023 at the United Nations Headquarters, the UN Chamber Music Society will perform during the Prayer for Peace – which will be opened with remarks by the UN
Secretary-General, Mr. António Guterres, and the UN Secretary-General's Envoy on Youth, Ms. Jayathma Wickramanayake.
During a special time on the spiritual calendar, when Christians are celebrating Easter, Jews are marking Passover, and Muslims are observing the holy month of Ramadan,
the Prayer for Peace will be a moment to come together in reflection. Sikhs are also celebrating Vaisakhi. Religious representatives will gather at UN Headquarters to deliver a critical message
about peace at a time of so much conflict and suffering around the world.
This moment is an opportunity for individuals of diverse faiths and beliefs to reflect on the importance of maintaining and building long-lasting peace. It is also a moment to remember the most
vulnerable, and to embrace compassion, solidarity and mutual respect – values at the heart of the United Nations Charter.

On 22 March 2023, the UN Chamber Music Society will present a concert for World Water Day. Every Drop Counts. 40 per cent shortfall in
freshwater resources by 2030 coupled with a burgeoning world population—according to current estimates—has the world careening towards a global water crisis. Recognizing the growing challenge,
the UN General Assembly launched the Water Action Decade on 22 March 2018, to mobilize action that will help transform how we manage
water. Water is critical for sustainable development. The issues of the eradication of poverty and hunger, the lack of access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene, drought and
climate change – are all related to water.
On this occasion, the UN Chamber Music Society will premiere Archimedes’s Dreams, composed by American composer Evan Fein. Water is essential to life; its creative forces have shaped
our cities, sculpted our landscapes, and washed away disease. It is engaged in an eternal cycle; the water we drink today may once have nourished the fields of Mesopotamia, or have been the
vapor in a cloud painted by Monet. The horizons of today’s seas are the same ones Leif Erikson and Magellan sought to peer beyond. They are reminders of a time when oceans were not barriers,
but rather the highways connecting the world’s peoples to one another. The work’s title is an ode to the great ancient scientist, whose inventions continue to shape our relationship with water
and remind us to approach this resource with wonder and humility.
Professor Fein resides in New York City, where he serves on the faculty of The Juilliard School. He was named winner of the American Prize for Composition in 2022, was awarded the 2014 Palmer
Dixon Prize for Outstanding Composition, and is the recipient of honors from the ASCAP Foundation, Boston Metro Opera, and the American Scandinavian Society. Founded in 2016 by Brenda Vongova,

On Monday, 20 March 2023, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) will present a virtual concert in partnership with the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations and the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF). The concert will take place on French Language Day, and will also honor the month of Francophonie – by celebrating the linguistic and cultural diversity of humanity, particularly through French language and music.
Language Days at the United Nations were introduced to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity and promote the equal use of the six official languages across the Organization. These days are also an opportunity to sensitize the United Nations community to the history, culture and use of each of these languages.
The concert will feature music by composer Eric Neveux, fromt the motion picture "De son vivant" ("Peaceful", directed by Emmanuelle Bercot - starring Catherine Deneuve, Benoit Magimet, Cécile de France and Dr. Gabriel Sara. Founded in 2016, the UNCMS is dedicated to promoting the UN goals at large - through the universal language of music.

Sending solidarity and support to Türkiye and Syria and its people in the face of the unprecedented
earthquake – one of the biggest natural disasters in our times – on 15 March 2023, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS), will present a virtual concert
in support of the relief efforts to provide lifesaving assistance to the victims of the earthquake. One of the worst disasters of this century, the earthquake has impacted millions of people
and left thousands homeless following two devastating earthqukes in Türkiye and Syria on 6 February
2023. A massive humanitarian operation continues, and the UN and its partners are
rapidly ramping up efforts to provide life-saving assistance. The United Nations is on the ground, delivering emergency relief items –
including shelter, tents, blankets, hygiene kits, and other humanitarian assistance.
Music binds us together in these darkest moments. Through
compassion, the musicians of UN Chamber Music Society, under the Artistic Direction of Brenda Vongova –
together with international Lebanses singer Abeer Nehme, Turkish musicians, and Syrian musicians – will perform a concert to support Türkiye and Syria. All donations will be
directed to the UN’s Türkiye-Syria Earthquake Humanitarian Crisis Appeal, to deliver lifesaving assistance to those affected by this massive tragedy. These resources will be used to
provide critical aid and relief. Founded in 2016, the UN Chamber Music Society carries out the United Nations’ mission of peace, understanding and cooperation, through the universal language of
music.

On 3 March 2023, the UN Chamber Music Society will perform a concert in celebration of World Wildlife Day. The animals and plants that live in the wild have an intrinsic value and contribute to the ecological, genetic, social, economic, scientific, educational, cultural,
recreational and aesthetic aspects of human well-being and to sustainable development. World Wildlife Day is an opportunity to celebrate the many beautiful and varied forms of wild fauna and
flora and to raise awareness of the multitude of benefits that their conservation provides to people. At the same time, the Day reminds us of the urgent need to step up the fight against wildlife
crime and human-induced reduction of species, which have wide-ranging economic, environmental and social impacts.
On this occasion, the UN Chamber Music Society will perform a programme inspired by wildlife - 'Hope Is the Thing with Feathers' and
'Flocks a Mile Wide' from The Lost Birds – composed by 2x Grammy award winning composer, Christopher Tin. The Lost Birds is a musical memorial to bird species driven to extinction by humankind. Sweeping and elegiac, it's a haunting tribute to those soaring flocks that
once filled our skies, but whose songs have since been silenced. It's a celebration of their feathered beauty: Their symbolism as messengers of hope, peace, and renewal. But it's also a warning about
our own tenuous existence on the planet: that the fate that befell these once soaring flocks foreshadows our own extinction.

On 21 February 2023, the UN Chamber Music Society will perform during the Observance of International Mother
Language Day (IMLD). The event will be hosted by the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations, in collaboration with the Permanent
Missions of Denmark, Guatemala, Hungary, India, Morocco and Timor-Leste, to the United Nations, the
UN Secretariat and the UNESCO.
The theme of this year’s IMLD is “Multilingual education – a necessity to transform education in a multilingual
world”. We live in a world where over 7,000 known languages cohabit; yet 2.3 billion people still lack access to education in their own
language, making realization of inclusive education a challenge. Multilingualism, one of the core values of the UN, contributes to promoting,
protecting and preserving diversity of languages and cultures globally and in the process, achieving the goals of the United Nations. Multilingualism and diverse culture cultures are important
elements in building a peaceful and inclusive world.
The music programme will reflect on our diverse elements – through the universal
language of music. It will honour multilingualism, by featuring musical styles inspired by poetry from Bangladesh, the USA, the UK, and Africa – including music repertoire composed by 2x Grammy

Millions of people were displaced around the world as a result of war and conflict. These refugees traveled far and wide fleeing from their homes leaving behind their whole lives just to remain alive. This artwork was created to reflect and spread awareness of the unfortunate plight of refugees seeking solace in foreign land amidst strangers. Half of the artwork is symbolic of conflict with the dark vertical lines coming down over colour that symbolises how war destroys homes, habitats, human lives and the tranquil part of the canvas is symbolic of a promise that the bliss they seek, that we all seek, the world we dream of, will be a possibility someday.

On Friday, 9 September 2022 at 5:45pm EST, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) will perform a music programme to honour the victims of terrorism, during the High-level Closing Plenary and Memorial Ceremony of the First United Nations Global Congress of Victims of Terrorism.
The United Nations Global Congress of Victims of Terrorism, convened under the auspices of the United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres, will provide a platform for victims of terrorism to directly share experiences, challenges, stories of their resilience, and contributions to wider society in a socially connected environment and to advocate for the strengthening and upholding of their rights and effective fulfilment of their needs. The Congress will allow the audience to learn about good practices undertaken by Member States and civil society organizations, while ensuring that victims’ voices are heard and that their experiences shape the way forward in their own countries and across borders.

On Sunday, 21 August 2022 at 9am EST, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) will perform during the fifth commemoration of the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism. The commemoration takes place as the world struggles to transition out of the public health emergency triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic and confronts the social transformations it has created or accelerated. At the same time, victims of terrorism continue to experience uncertainty and anxiety as armed conflicts, violent attacks, and terrorist acts around the world continue to make headlines and perhaps exacerbate or trigger their traumas.
Remembrance of and paying tribute to victims of terrorism plays a central role in demonstrating that their status as victims is respected and recognised. The International Day serves to commemorate and uphold the dignity of victims and highlights the importance of global solidarity in ensuring that victims are not forgotten.
The theme for this year’s International Day is “Memories” and was selected following consultation with victims and victims’ associations. Memories bind us together as if connected by a red thread, a fil rouge: a thread that signifies our common humanity and solidarity with those who have suffered irreparable losses in the most heinous of circumstances.
The event will be opened by United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. António Guterres, and feature the participation of the co-Chairs of the Group of Friends of Victims of Terrorism, the Republic of Iraq and the Kingdom of Spain, testimonies from four victims of terrorism, and closing remarks by Under-Secretary General for Counter-Terrorism, Mr. Vladimir Voronkov.

On Monday, 18 July 2022, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations
Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) will present a concert in celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day. The music repertoire of the concert will honour the African heritage, by featuring
compositions by extraordinary black composers who changed the course of classical and pop music history - including Julian Marley, Pulitzer Prize winning composer George Walker, and Joseph Bologne
Chevalier de Saint-Georges – informally known as ‘The Black Mozart’, and who is remembered as the first classical composer of African origins. The concert will also feature “Baba Yetu”,
composed by 2x-Grammy award winning composer Christopher Tin, arranged for the UN Chamber Music Society.
In recognition of the former South African President’s contribution to the
culture of peace and freedom, Nelson Mandela International Day recognizes his values and dedication to the service of humanity in the struggle for democracy internationally, and the promotion of
a culture of peace throughout the world. Founded in 2016, the UNCMS is dedicated to promoting the UN goals at large - through the universal language of music.

On Wednesday, 11 May 2022, at the Times Building, the UN Chamber Music Society is proud to present
a concert during the United Nations Development Programme’s launch of the Global Cinema Medium Campaign and United Nations Global Impact Awards Presentation for Recognition of Outstanding
Contribution to Climate Action.
The music programme will feature music repertoire from all over the world, and will open with music from Spirited Away, a film which repeatedly examines the consequences of destructive
actions against the environment and the harm it causes to people and society through ecological subtext. In the feminist spirit, the concert will close with music composed by Clara
Schumann. Founded in 2016, the UN Chamber Music Society is dedicated to promoting the United Nations' goals and values at large - through the universal language of

On Thursday, 31 March 2022, UN Chamber Music Society will present a Concert for Peace for Ukraine. The United
Nations and our humanitarian partners are committed to delivering support to people in Ukraine in their time of need. The United Nations staff are always guided by the humanitarian principles
of neutrality, impartiality and humanity. They provide lifesaving humanitarian relief to people in need, regardless of who or where they are.
According to UNHCR, over 3 million Ukrainians have fled across the country’s borders. We are facing what could easily become Europe’s worst humanitarian and refugee crisis since World War II, with the numbers of refugees and internally displaced multiplying by the minute.
Music binds us together in these darkest moments. Through compassion and solidarity, the musicians of UN Chamber Music Society will perform a Concert for Peace for Ukraine. Opening remarks will be delivered by Amin Awad, United Nations Crisis Coordinator for Ukraine, and Harvey Mason Jr., CEO of the Recording Academy. Founded in 2016, the UNCMS is dedicated to promoting the goals of the UN through the universal language of music.

On 3 March 2022, the UN Chamber Music Society will perform during the celebration of World Wildlife Day 2022, hosted by the United Nations Development Programme. Bringing together representatives of UN Member States, UN System organizations and multilateral environmental agreements, civil society, and the private sector for a series of discussions along the theme of "Recovering key species for ecosystem restoration", the celebration will seek to draw attention to the conservation status of some of the most critically endangered species of wild fauna and flora, and to drive discussions towards imagining and implementing solutions to conserve them. All conversations will be inspired by and seek to inform efforts towards the achievement of UN Sustainable Development Goals 1 (No Poverty), 2 (Zero hunger) 12 (Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns), 13 (Climate Action) 14 (Life Below Water) and 15 (Life on Land).

On 27 January 2022, the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death
camp, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS), will perform a virtual concert in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a turning
point in history, which prompted the world to say "never again".
The classical music programme will feature Jewish composers, to instill the memory of the tragedy in future generations to prevent genocide from occurring again. It will also feature special
performances from musicians from Maestro Daniel Barenboim’s West–Eastern Divan Orchestra. In addition, the concert will feature artwork by Roy Nachum. Founded in 2016, the UN
Chamber Music Society carries out the United Nations’ mission of peace, understanding and cooperation, through the universal language of music.

Reflection is a symbol of strength. The painting is a testament to human resilience and honors the victims of the Holocaust in everlasting memory. Based on reality and trans historical paradigms Nachum depicts hands reaching out in struggle. The painting reveals emotions from under the surface and the moment in time is immortalized. In Reflection Nachum sculpts raised Braille cells on the surface of the canvas. The use of this language deepens the relationship between the artistic process and the viewers participation. A vehicle to confront our existential apprehensions. The result of the labor-intensive process is a visceral painting that reveals the underlying darkness. A powerful reminder of those whose voices can no longer be heard.

On Saturday, 18 December 2021, the UN Chamber Music Society (UNCMS) will present a virtual concert in celebration of World Arabic Language Day, which will be launched on the global platforms of the United Nations.
One of the most widely spoken languages in the world, Arabic is a pillar of the cultural diversity
of humanity. In celebration of World Arabic Language Day, and Arabic’s historic role in the development of art and science, the programme will feature a variety of popular and classical music
from the Arab region. The music programme will open with ‘I Lift My Eyes’ composed by Christopher Tin, 2x Grammy Award Winning Composer – sung by Lebanese singer-songwriter Abeer
Nehme. Throughout the concert, “Magic Carpets” artwork by Saks Afridi will be presented.
Opening remarks will be delivered by H.E. Mr. Mohammed Hussein Bahr Aluloom, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Iraq to the United Nations, and Chair of the Arab Group for the month of
December 2021. Founded in 2016, the UN Chamber Music Society is dedicated to promoting the United Nations' goals and values at large - through the universal language of

In observance of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, on 25 November 2021, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS), will perform a concert dedicated to helping to eliminate violence against women and girls. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, emerging data and reports from those on the front lines, have shown that all types of violence against women and girls, particularly domestic violence, has intensified. The is the Shadow Pandemic grosing amidst the COVID-19 crisis, and we need a global collective effort to stop it. More needs to be done to prioritize addressing violence against women in COVID-19 response and recovery efforts. As countries implemented lockdown measures to stop the spread of the coronavirus, violence against women, especially domestic violence, instensified - in some countries, calls to helplines have increased five-fold.
On this occasion, the UN Chamber Music Society will dedicate this concert to organizations committed to helping to eliminate violence against women: Violence Against Women aims to bring about societal change to members of the Palestinian society, especially women, by providing the right to a decent life and equality. Headquartered in Nazareth, the organization is committed to eliminating violence directed against women must be eliminated, as well as the conditions for women's oppression. HACEY Health Initiative works to improve the health and productivity of women and girls in Nigeria and underserved populations in Africa. Their programmes integrate health and economic empowerment programs, and address the root causes of gender-based violence by expanding opportunities to finance, counseling, and psycho-social support to women and girls across Nigeria.
The concert will feature special performances from musicians of Daniel Barenboim’s West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, including violinist Yamen Saadi; the Karajan Trio of the Berlin Philharmonic, Syrian clarinetist Kinan Azmeh, and the Trio Joubran. Founded in 2016, the UN Chamber Music Society is dedicated to promoting the United Nations’ goals and values at large - through the universal language of music.

Village Health Works is proud to present a benefit concert with the UN Chamber Music Society. Working in Burundi, East Africa, Village Health Work’s newest project in progress is the Kigutu Hospital & Women’s Health Pavilion, a state-of-the-art, 150-bed teaching hospital designed to meet the growing needs of our region, particularly among women and children.
The music programme will pay special tribute to the women who have helped to shape classical music history, and whose voices have
been marginalized and silenced. It will feature musical works that represent an artistic tapestry of human experience, to provoke empathy and create a more compassionate world, in hopes of

This piece explores the diversity and interrelationships of the various cultures within India that mesh seamlessly to create a beautiful kitsch. The artist used “Varli”, an old Indian
traditional artist form, that originated in the 10th century, which was used to depict village life and was drawn inside the homes (huts) of the villagers. The vibrant colours and the Varli have been created with mixed media around the bark of a tree photographed in Mumbai, Maharashtra to
celebrate our differences. May light and love always prevail.

On Sunday, 18 July 2021, the UN Chamber Music Society
of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) will present a concert in celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day. The music repertoire of the concert will honour the African
heritage, by featuring compositions by extraordinary black composers who changed the course of classical and pop music history - including multi-Grammy award winning composer Billy Childs, and
Pulitzer Prize winning composer George Walker. The concert will also feature special performances by Julian Marley, Sara Marley – who will sing repertoire by Ms. Lauryn Hill, Addis Pablo, Vusi
Nova, Onesimus, as well singer Nonie Mtirara (Mandela’s Niece) – who will sing an excerpt from Madiba the African Opera.
In recognition of the former South African

In celebration of International Day of Parliamentarism on 30 June 2021, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) – in partnership with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) - will perform a concert in celebration and recognition of the role of parliaments in national plans in empowering youth who have been coping during the pandemic – ensuring access to education, addressing reduced employment prospects, social isolation, and the surge in mental health issues.
The concert will be launched on the UN platforms, and shared by the Member
Parliaments, along with the other debates and discussions of the parliament held on the International Day of Parliamentarism. Established
in 30 June 1889, the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the world organization of parliaments, connects national parliaments in order to promote greater
transparency, accountability and participation at the global level. Along with other parliamentary organizations, IPU engages with the United Nations on activities that cover a broad range of issues,
including peace and security, human rights and sustainable development.
The concert will feature musical works that represent an artistic
tapestry of human experience, to provoke empathy and create a more interconnected world. The music programme with open with 'Flocks a Mile Wide', composed by 2x Grammy Award winning composer,
Christopher Tin. Founded in 2016 by Brenda Vongova, the UN Chamber Music Society is dedicated to promoting the UN goals at large - through the universal language of music.

On the occasion of World Refugee Day on Sunday, 20 June 2021, the UN Chamber
Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS), in partnership with the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), will hold a virtual concert, which will also be broadcasted in Jordan, home
to hundreds of thousands refugees. Refugees and other
displaced populations belong to the most marginalized and vulnerable members of society. They are particularly at risk during the time of the coronavirus disease outbreak, because they often have
limited access to water, sanitation systems and health facilities.
Music symbolizes love and peace, and holds the power to highlight the plight of
the refugees. In celebration of World Refugee Day, and in honour of the refugees all around the world, the music programme will open with music featuring Jordanian Singer, Leen Alfaqih; as well
as the world premiere of the Songs of Five Continents for the UN Chamber Music Society, composed by Yuko Uébayashi, as well as beautiful repertoire composed and performed by classically trained Syrian
musicians. Founded in 2016, the UNCMS is dedicated to promoting the UN goals at large - through the
universal language of music.

On Sunday, 6 June 2021, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) will present a virtual concert in celebration of UN Russian Language Day, which will celebrate the linguistic and cultural diversity of humanity, particularly through Russian language and music. Russian Language Day is commemorated annually on June 6th, on the birthday of the great Russian poet A.S. Pushkin, within the framework of the program to support and develop multilingualism.
The concert will open with remarks by
H.E. Mr. Vassily A. Nebenzia, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations, and will feature performances by special guest artists of the Moscow Art Theatre: Vassiy,
Anjelika & Anastasia Nemirovich-Danchenko.
Language Days at the United Nations were
introduced to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity and promote the equal use of the six official languages across the Organization. These days are also an opportunity to sensitize the United Nations community to the
history, culture and use of each of these languages. Founded in 2016, the UNCMS is dedicated to promoting the UN goals at large - through the universal language of

On 1 June 2021, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council will perform during the closing of the High-Level UN Oceans Event, hosted by the President of the UN General Assembly. The ocean, climate change, and biodiversity nexus and finding solutions to the triple planetary crisis are key to achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Taking a cohesive approach to COVID-19 responses and accelerating action towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is critical.
The COVID-19 pandemic has slowed and even reversed progress on some SDGs, and a green recovery is key to addressing this slow down. With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation of SDG 14 by the 2030 deadline seems even more daunting. Given the widespread health and economic impacts of the pandemic, and the urgent need for relief measures, some difficult tradeoffs will be made and governments’ priorities will be re-evaluated; however, it is crucial that any interim measures implemented are done in a way that will not exacerbate the existing challenges—both socioeconomic and environmental—facing the ocean and coastal communities.
During the High-Level UN Oceans Event, the UN Chamber Music Society will perform the universally popular Handel’s Water Music – inspired by the lungs of our planet, symbolizing hope and perseverance in the face of the urgent need to address our environmental issues. Founded in 2016, the UN Chamber Music Society carries out the United Nations’ mission of peace, understanding and cooperation, through the universal language of music.

On 21 May 2021, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council will perform at the opening and closing of the High-Level Event on Culture and Sustainable Development, convened by H.E. Mr. Volkan Bozkir, President of the Seventy-fifth Session of the United Nations General Assembly.
In accordance with the General Assembly Resolution
74/230, the President of the General Assembly will convene a one-day high-level event on Culture and Sustainable Development in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and
Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This event, which will be held on Friday 21 May 2021, the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, will highlight the resilient and
transformative role of culture as an accelerator of SDG implementation, as well as the challenges within the cultural and creative industries and the broader cultural ecosystem that were exposed and
exacerbated by the COVID-19 crisis.
Its overall theme shall be “Building back
better: towards a more resilient and impactful culture sector throughout COVID-19 and The Decade of Action”. It will, inter alia, provide the opportunity for Member States to share experiences on
crisis-response measures to support the creative economy during the pandemic; identify implementation gaps and solutions; and call for strengthening strategic cross-sectoral partnerships to unlock
the transformative potential of culture in the recovery context and throughout the Decade of Action.

On Friday, 23 April 2021, the UN Chamber Music
Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) will present a virtual concert in celebration of the English and Spanish Language Days at the United Nations, which will celebrate the
linguistic and cultural diversity of humanity, particularly through English and Spanish language and music. This day raises awareness among the UN Organization's staff, and the world in
general, about the history, culture and use of English and Spanish as an official language. The choice of the day attends the anniversary of the death of the great genius of Spanish letters,
Miguel de Cervantes. Coincidentally, the date of his death coincides with that of the most prestigious English playwright, William Shakespeare. Hence, both languages share the day.
Language Days at the United Nations were introduced to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity and promote the equal use of the six official languages across the Organization. These days are also an opportunity to sensitize the United Nations community to the

On Tuesday, 20 April 2021, the UN
Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) will present a virtual concert in celebration of UN Chinese Language Day, which will celebrate the linguistic and cultural
diversity of humanity, particularly through Chinese language and music. Chinese Language Day has been set as the "Gu Yu" of the twenty-four solar terms of the lunar calendar, to
commemorate the contribution of Cangjie, the "ancestor of Chinese characters". Over the years, the UN Chinese Language Day has become a window for people to understand Chinese
culture.
As music is a universal language, the concert’s all-Chinese music programme symbolizes the spiritual connection between music and the Chinese language, one of the most widely spoken languages in the world – and will provide a window for people to understand the richness of the Chinese culture and way life. The ancient text of the “Tao Te Ching” states that the Tao is the eternal, changeless spirit that runs through all life and matter. It further says that the task of life is to bring ourselves into attunement with the Tao, so that we are always moving in harmony with the universe, and not in dissonance against it. The music programme will help provide inspiration to the beauty of Chinese Taoism, which treasures 3 things in human beings: compassion, economy, and humility.
Language Days at the United Nations were introduced to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity and promote the equal use of the six official languages across the Organization. These days are also an opportunity to sensitize the United Nations community to the history, culture and use of each of these languages. Founded in 2016, the UNCMS is dedicated to promoting the UN goals at large - through the universal language of music.

On Saturday, 20 March 2021, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) will present a virtual concert in partnership with the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations and the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF). The concert will take place on French Language Day, and will also honor the month of Francophonie – by celebrating the linguistic and cultural diversity of humanity, particularly through French language and music.
Language Days at the United Nations were introduced to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity and promote the equal use of the six official languages across the Organization. These days are also an opportunity to sensitize the United Nations community to the history, culture and use of each of these languages. In celebration of International Women's Day on 8 March 2021, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS), will perform a concert - to pay special tribute to the women who have helped to shape classical music history, and whose voices have been marginalized and silenced.

On 3 March 2021, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council will perform during the celebration of World Wildlife Day 2021, hosted by the United Nations Development Programme. The focus of this year's World Wildlife Day is "Forests and livelihoods: sustaining people and planet", which sheds light on the links between the state of our planet’s forests and woodlands and the preservation of the millions of livelihoods that depend directly on them, with a particular attention to the traditional knowledge of the communities who have managed forest ecosystems and its wildlife for centuries.
In celebration of World Wildlife Day, the UN Chamber Music Society will
perform a programme inspired by wildlife - 'Flocks a Mile Wide' – composed by 2x Grammy award winning composer, Christopher Tin. Founded in
2016, the UN Chamber Music Society carries out the United Nations’ mission of peace, understanding and cooperation, through the universal language of music. All musicians will perform chamber
ensemble music from the safety of their homes, to help stem the spread of the coronavirus.

On 21 February 2021, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council will perform during the Observance of International Mother Language Day (IMLD). The event will be hosted by the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations, in collaboration with Members States from across the regions and UNESCO.
The event is aimed at upholding the inalienable right of people globally to their mother languages and the importance of linguistic and cultural diversities. Multilingualism, one of the core values of the UN, contributes to promoting, protecting and preserving diversity of languages and cultures globally and in the process, achieving the goals of the United Nations. While the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly changed our lives, it has reminded us how interconnected we are today. And how we all must all work together to tackle our current global crises. Multilingualism and diverse culture cultures are important elements in building a peaceful and inclusive world.
The music programme by the UN Chamber Music Society that you will hear today, will reflect on our diverse
elements – through the universal language of music. It will honour multilingualism, by featuring composers from South Africa, Bangladesh, France and Guadeloupe. Founded in 2016, the UN

Sending support to homeless women in the New York community, on World Day for Social Justice, Saturday 20 February 2021 at 12:00pm EST, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) will launch a virtual concert dedicated to helping thousands of women suffering from homelessness – through (In)visible Women, a non-profit organization based at the United Nations International School (UNIS).
From job discrimination, to lack of affordable housing, for them and their children, homeless women in unstable living conditions face many challenges. These issues make the daily lives of homeless women in need, immensely difficult. (In)visible women is committed to help in making our community a safer, happier and healthier place for women on the streets and transitional shelters in New York City.
Founded in 2016, the UN Chamber Music Society is dedicated to promoting the United Nations’ goals and values at large - through the universal language of music.

On 27 January 2021, the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS), will perform a virtual concert in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. The Holocaust was a turning point in history, which prompted the world to say "never again". The classical music programme will feature Jewish composers, to instill the memory of the tragedy in future generations to prevent genocide from occurring again.

In celebration of Human Rights Day on 10 December 2020, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS), will perform a concert – to celebrate the adoption in 1948 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The UDHR is a milestone document proclaiming the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Available in more than 500 languages, it is the most translated document in the world.
The music programme will feature and celebrate musical works by female composers and composers of minority communities, representing an artistic tapestry of composers from diverse backgrounds. By celebrating the works of composers from diverse backgrounds, we help to realign the world of classical music with its nuanced history, while expanding notions of what is considered conventional in classical music – symbolizing our hopes of building bridges of understanding of human rights. Founded in 2016, the UN Chamber Music Society is dedicated to promoting the United Nations' goals and values at large - through the universal language of music.

On 12 December 2020, the UN
Chamber Music Society (UNCMS) – in partnership with VIRTUA CREATIVE – will launch “75 YEARS OF LOVE,” the ensemble’s debut world music album, in support of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), and in
celebration of the United Nations 75th Anniversary. The programme will be musically representative at the regional level, as repertoire from all five official regional groups of the United
Nations will be featured. The songs chosen will be linked to the message of the UN’s 75th anniversary. The album will feature World Classical Music and World Pop Music – and will be
launched on the various UN platforms.
All donations and album profits received will be directed to support the
humanitarian work of the UNHCR, which has provided for seventy-years life-saving assistance and protection to refugees globally. Founded in 2016, the UN Chamber Music Society is dedicated to
promoting the United Nations’ goals and values at large - through the universal language of music.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Global Communications. The concert will be launched on the Official YouTube Channel for the UN75, as well as other UN and UNHCR
platforms.
The “75 YEARS OF LOVE” project will also celebrate the debut album launch of the UN Chamber Music Society’s first world music album recording, in support of UNHCR, and in celebration of the UN’s anniversary. All donations received will be directed to support the humanitarian work of the UNHCR, which has provided for seventy-years life-saving assistance and protection to refugees globally. The album is scheduled to be launched by UNHCR in December 2020.

The United Nations Summit on Biodiversity will be convened by the President of the General Assembly on 30 September 2020, at the level of Heads of State and Government under the theme of “Urgent action on biodiversity for sustainable development.” Our societies are intimately linked with and depend on biodiversity. Biodiversity is essential for people, including through its provision of nutritious food, clean water, medicines, and protection from extreme events. Biodiversity loss and the degradation of its contributions to people jeopardize progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and human wellbeing.

All proceeds will be directed to Food Bank NYC. Founded in 1983, Food Bank’s mission is to end hunger by organizing food, information, and support for community survival and dignity. Food Bank has been New York City’s major hunger-relief organization working to end hunger throughout the five boroughs for over 36 years. Nearly one in five—or 1.5 million New Yorkers primarily women and approximately 350,000 children, the working poor, immigrants, the elderly, and people with disabilities—relies on Food Bank for food and other resources. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of people in New York City turning to the Food Bank’s emergency food network has increased by 50%. With every $1, Food Bank provides 5 meals to New Yorkers in need.

On Friday, 21 August 2020 at 10:00 am EST, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) will perform during the third commemoration of the International Day of Remembrance of and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism. The virtual high-level event, “Not Forgotten: Stories of Remembrance of Victims of Terrorism”, will be held with the participation of the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. António Guterres, and will be an opportunity for victims to speak about remembrance on their own terms.
A short film on remembrance will be launched, with testimonies of victims and survivors of terrorism demonstrating their individual journey and experience, especially since the onset of the pandemic. This will be followed by an interactive discussion with a panel of victims, victims’ associations, and experts on how the pandemic has affected the ability to honour and commemorate victims and survivors of terrorism. This event is organized in collaboration with the Group of Friends of Victims of Terrorism.

In celebration of World Humanitarian Day on 19 August 2020, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS), in partnership with The Sound Bridge Internationa, will perform a concert - to apy special tribute to the real-life heroes from the United Nations and other humanitarian organizations, who have committed their lives to helping others in the most extreme circumstances throughout the world. The music programme will feature musical works that represent an artistic tapestry of human experience, to provoke empathy and create a more compassionate world, in hopes of building bridges of cultural understanding.
Founded in 2016, the UN Chamber Music Society carries out the United Nations’ mission of peace, understanding and cooperation, through the universal language of music. Music is a symbolizes love and peace, and holds the power to highlight humanitarians dedicated to helping people affected by crises. All musicians will perform chamber ensemble music from the safety of their homes, to help stem the spread of the coronavirus.

Sending solidarity and support to Lebanon and its people in the face of the unprecedented explosion, on Sunday, 16 August 2020, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) will present a virtual concert in support of Lebanon’s ongoing relief and recovery efforts. The explosion ripped through the city, flipping over cars, shattering glass and causing building infrastructures to crumble. The international community is heartbroken to see the devastation caused by the explosion, and our thoughts and prayers go out to all the citizens of Lebanon and all those who have also been affected. All funds raised will be directed to the Lebanese Red Cross, to benefit the people of Lebanon.

‘Music and Film: Rebuilding Better Through Coronavirus and Beyond’, organized by the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS), in partnership with UN75 and the UN Educational, Scientific & Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), will be moderated by Ernesto Ottone R, UNESCO’s Assistant Director-General for Culture, The UN Secretary-General’s Advisor on UN75 Fabrizio Hochschild, and World Health Organistion’s Art and Health Lead Christopher Bailey, will offer opening statements. The panel will feature Sean Flahaven, Chief Theatricals Executive of Concord, the fifth largest music company in the world & a Tony and Grammy winning producer, including of the 6x Platinum hit musical Hamilton; Emellie O’Brien, Founder & CEO of Earth Angel, a pioneering sustainability consultancy dedicated to greening film and television production; Joseph Bartning, Executive Director of the Salzburg Festival Society; and Rose H. Schwartz, partner at entertainment law firm Franklin, Weinrib, Rudell & Vassallo, P.C., who represents U.S. and international film and television producers, authors, opera companies, record labels, and creative talent.
This UN75/UNESCO ResiliArt panel discussion will explore the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic on the music and film industries, what can be done to protect creators and artists who are disproportionately affected by it, and how the music and film industries can be part of solutions to the global challenges facing our world.
#UN75 is the United Nations’ largest outreach initiative to engage the global public and civil society to address the most urgent challenges of our time. The views, concerns and ideas expressed in UN75 Moderated Dialogues will be presented to world leaders of all 193 UN Member States and UN leadership at the official commemoration of the UN’s 75th Anniversary in September 2020. On Saturday, 18 July 2020, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) will present a concert in celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day. The music repertoire of the concert will honour the African heritage, by featuring compositions by extraordinary black composers who changed the course of classical music history, including Joseph Bologne Chevalier de Saint-Georges (dubbed the ‘Black Mozart’) – one of the most accomplished classical music composers of African ancestry. The concert will present the international premiere of arias from Madiba the African Opera, composed by the Sibusiso Njeza, and sung by opera singer Nonie Mtirara, niece of Nelson Mandela. In addition, the world premiere of Vusi Nova’s “Viva Mandela”, arranged for the UN Chamber Music Society, will be featured.
In recognition of the former South African President’s contribution to the culture of peace and freedom, Nelson Mandela International Day recognizes his values and dedication to the service of humanity in the struggle for democracy internationally, and the promotion of a culture of peace throughout the world.

On Tuesday, 14 July 2020, the UN Chamber Music Society of the United
Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) will present a virtual concert in support of UNESCO’s ResiliArt movement for artists in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. In partnership with UNESCO and the
International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), the concert will take place on Bastille Day, the national day of France, and will celebrate the linguistic and cultural diversity of humanity, particularly
through French language and music.
Launched in April 2020, following the outbreak of COVID-19, UNESCO’s ResiliArt movement is a concerted global effort to support artists, ensure access to culture for all and promote the diversity of cultural expressions. The health crisis brought on by COVID-19 has plunged the global economy into a recession, which could cost the global economy nearly US $8.5 trillion over the next two years. While billions of people around the world have turned to culture as a source of comfort and connection during this crisis, the impact of COVID-19 has not spared the culture sector. Cultural institutions including museums, theatres, cinemas and concert halls are losing millions in revenue each day, and 1 in 8 museums may never reopen. Artists, most of whom were already working part-time, on an informal basis or under precarious contracts prior to the pandemic, are struggling to make ends meet. Today, we are experiencing a cultural emergency.
ResiliArt sheds light on the current state of the cultural and creative industries amidst the crisis through global discussions with key industry professionals, as well as by capturing the experiences and voices of resilience of artists on social media. Together with creative actors, ResiliArt raises awareness about the far-reaching ramifications of COVID-19 across the sector and aims at supporting artists during and following the crisis. This includes incorporating protections for the culture sector and its professionals in COVID-19 relief plans, and post-pandemic economic recovery plans; improving the status of the artist by advocating for fairer regulations and the fair remuneration of artists; and thinking ahead to rebuild the creative sector better post COVID-19, in alignment with UN priorities, including socio-economic and environmental sustainability. ResiliArt also promotes cultural diversity in the face of growing risks of cultural homogenization, due to, among other factors, the rise of online platforms.
During the inaugural debate on World Art Day (April 15), UNESCO called on all interested parties to join the ResiliArt Movement by organizing their own debates with the help of a public guide made accessible by UNESCO for this purpose. More than 100 ResiliArt debates have been organized to date in 54 countries around the world (and more than 30 additional debates are currently scheduled in five regions across the globe). Through ResiliArt, civil society has become an active actor in the decision-making process to enhance the culture sector’s resilience in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis.
The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented challenge requiring an unprecedented response. Now more than ever, we need to recognize, incorporate, and support cultural concerns in our response to the crisis and planning for the recovery, and support artists and culture professionals in overcoming, this emergency.

Music Society will perform music from the safety of their homes, to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. Founded in 2016, the UNCMS is dedicated to promoting the goals of the UN through the

On the occasion of World Refugee Day on 20 June 2020, the UN Chamber Music Society
of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS), in partnership with the UN Refugee
Agency (UNHCR), will hold a pre-recorded virtual concert, which will also be broadcasted in
Jordan, which is home to nearly 750,000 refugees. Refugees and other
displaced populations belong to the most marginalized and vulnerable members of society. They are particularly at risk during the time of the coronavirus disease outbreak, because they often have
limited access to water, sanitation systems and health facilities.
The World Refugee Day Concert of the UN Chamber Music Society will raise awareness about the plight of the coronavirus pandemic on refugees. Over 80 per cent of the world’s refugees and nearly all internally displaced people are hosted in low- and middle-income countries, with already strained health care systems.
Amid the coronavirus pandemic, these communities face heightened challenges, and their
vulnerabilities must be taken into consideration in readiness and response operations. Keeping the
most vulnerable safe means keeping everyone safe.
As the concert is hosted by the UN Refugee Agency in New York City, Part I of the concert will feature a classical and world music programme, symbolizes the city’s multicultural and global dimension – while providing solace to the city which has been severely hit by the coronavirus pandemic. A musician of the New York Philharmonic and dancers of the American Ballet Theatre will be featured. In addition, the UN Chamber Music Society will perform music from the musical Hamilton. Part II of the concert will feature music from Jordan and the Middle East, opening with music composed by the region’s music icon Kadim Al Sahir. Part III of the concert will feature the world debut of a music collaboration “Hope for Refugees” between the UN Chamber Music Society and Afghan rapper and activist, Sonita Alizadeh. Sonita grew up as a refugee in Iran. She was sold into marriage twice as a child bride. However, she escaped that fate, and today - uses rap music as a tool to empower girls and to bring change and equality to this world. Co-produced by UNCMS founder Brenda Vongova,“Hope for Refugees” fuses the world of rap music with the classical music of the J.S. Bach’s Harpsichord Concerto No.1 in D Minor, with the mission of making classical music more accessible to the world.

The UN Chamber Music Society of the United Nations Staff Recreation Council (UNCMS) is proud to present the world debut of Brazil’s football superstar Dani Alves, as a percussionist with the UNCMS, in collaboration with the legendary Paolo Flores from Angola. The concert celebrates World Hand Hygiene Day, which coincides with International Day of the Portuguese Language and Culture. The performance features music from the three regions of the world where Portuguese is spoken: Latin America (Brazil), Africa (Angola) and Europe (Portugal). Special thanks to Portuguese-American actor Joaquim de Almeida, for delivering opening remarks, the soulful Tiganá Santana from Brazil, Portuguese music icon Luís Represas, and all the musicians who contributed.
Launched in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO), the concert draws attention to the simple practices that each of us can take throughout this pandemic to protect our friends and loved ones, and to protect the healing hands of our medical professionals. The prevention and control of infection of the coronavirus, using hand hygiene, is critical to achieving this goal. Musicians’ hands are also healing hands, because music heals.
With 240 million Portuguese language speakers worldwide, Portuguese is a pillar of the cultural diversity of
humanity. Established by the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP) - the community of nations where
Portuguese if the official language, including Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Mozambique, São Tomé and Príncipe and East Timor - Portuguese Language Day is dedicated to
celebrating the common linguistic and cultural ties which unite these eight countries. Portuguese is now recognized as a working language by European Union, the Mercosul, the African Union, the
Organization of Ibero-American States, and the Organization of American States, among other world organizations. As music is a universal language, the repertoire at this concert will symbolize
the spiritual and philosophical connection between music and the Portuguese Language – while supporting WHO’s call to hand hygiene.

Classical music is central to world sports history. It is played everywhere, from the opening of every FIFA
World Cup, to Formula 1 Races, the Olympics, and Ice Skating among others. This concert celebrates this long-standing but little-known marriage. Music, art and sports will be crucial to maintaining
our physical and mental health in the times ahead.
We will need all our strength as we consider and prepare for how we must rebuild the world better when the coronavirus pandemic ends. The United Nations General Assembly adopted the International Day of Sport for Peace and Development in 2013 to recognize sports’ contributions to the advancement of human rights, and social and economic development. Founded in 2016, the UNCMS is dedicated to promoting the UN goals at large - through the universal language of music.
